Community Involvement

Habitat For Humanity

For the 2019 calendar year, IJL has decided to partner with Habitat For Humanity and commit to being a Home Build Sponsor. What this means is that we have committed to raising $100,000 to build a house for a family in need. This house is located on Elgin Avenue, just a couple blocks away from our new building.

This is a huge commitment on our part, but we are confident that with the people we know within our community, not only in Winnipeg but also in the broader jewellery industry, that we will have no problem reaching our goal.

If you would like to participate in this fundraising effort, please click on the donation button below. This button will re-direct you to our Habitat For Humanity page where you can enter in your donation details. And thank you for your support!

Manitoba Organization Of Disc Sports

MODS (Manitoba Organization of Disc Sports) is the largest Ultimate Frisbee league here in Manitoba and was founded in 1988.  The sport has grown significantly over the past couple decades, being officially recognised by the International Olympic Committee in 2015.  Here in Manitoba, MODS boasts over 4000 registered players, with over 240 Adult teams playing in the summer months.

Ultimate is a game that can be played by anybody, of any age or gender.  It is one of the only sports that is self-officiated on the field and for the most part is made up of coed teams.  Costs to get into the sport is very minimal - similar to that of soccer - which makes access to it quite easy.  All you need is some cleats, a frisbee, and some pylons!

Independent Jewellers is happy to partner with such an amazing organisation, signing a 5-year deal with MODS in the beginning of 2016.  We are happy to provide funding that will help MODS take care of their fields, as well as keep the cost of membership down.  Signage will be found in all their fields, as well as at the entrance of Maple Grove Park where you will find IJL Ultimate Park.

The MODS membership benefit from special pricing.  Please contact us for more details.

Ronald McDonald House Charities

Ronald McDonald House Charities Manitoba is an amazing program devoted to providing space for families that have sick children.  This house is located right near the Health Sciences Centre hospital, as well, they have created a family room within the Children's Hospital.

Having a sick child causes all kinds of stresses on the parents and family of the child.  To be able to have access to space where you can be near you child, as well as have the care that child needs right next door is huge.  Funding from their Fashion Gala each year goes directly into this program, allowing parents and families to be with their children while dealing with the illness the child is suffering from.  The amount of support they receive is staggering - in 2016 the Hope Couture Fashion Gala raised over $300,000 in one night!

Independent Jewellers is so proud to be able to help this great organisation by donating prizes to help raise money in support of this charity.

Royal Winnipeg Ballet

The Royal Winnipeg Ballet received its royal charter from the queen in 1953 and to this day remains the only Royal ballet in Canada. Some of the best dancers in Canada have attended this prestigious school and Independent Jewellers has been fortunate to support such an amazing organisation.

The RWB Gala is a huge fundraising opportunity for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and is an event that Independent Jewellers has been proud to be a part of for the last number of years. Each year we happily donate either a beautiful piece of jewellery or a fine timepiece to the top tier fundraising event.

The Dream Factory

Possibly the largest fundraising event of the year, the Dream Maker Auction is an amazing night dedicated to bringing the dreams of sick children to life.  In 2018, they raised over $640,000 and all money goes to The Dream Factory (once called The Rainbow Society).

If you truly want to get a grasp as to the generosity of Winnipeggers, this is a must see event.  To see so much money get donated to such an amazing cause will bring tears to your eyes.

The cause? All money goes to make sick kids dreams come true.

"At the very core, it’s about making dreams come true for special kids in Manitoba – always has been, always will be."

Independent Jewellers is proud to take part in such a beautiful and fun evening.
