| Independent Jewellers traces its roots
to 1937 when John H. Epp, looking to augment his salary at Piggly
Wiggly, began to sell watches and shavers, after hours, on a house
to house basis in Winnipeg's west end. In the early 1940's a location
on Notre Dame Ave. was selected to launch a full time jewellery enterprise.
Growth and expansion over the years has
resulted in a major freestanding location at Notre Dame & Isabel
St as well as 2 mall locations - McIvor Mall on Henderson Hwy and
in Polo Park Shopping Centre. A specialty store specializing in
watches and clocks is located at St. Vital Centre and operates under
the name of Time Centre.
Independent Jewellers has been run
by second generation family members since 1979.
