History

The year was 1939, the Great Depression was just ending, Amelia Earhart became the first woman to fly solo from Hawaii to California, and Snow White had its first screening. It was also the year John H. Epp would sell his first Rolex. Independent Credit Jewellers was established on the corner of Notre Dame and Isabel in 1937 where it continues to be owned and operated by the same family. For over 70 years we have created a reputation as a trusted source for quality jewellery, beautiful timepieces, unique giftware, and a variety of services.

My grandfather was the one who began the tradition of Independent Jewellers and he passed it on to his sons. Our father took over in 1996 and has been running the company on his own since then. Now, my brother and I have the opportunity to continue the tradition and are privileged to be a part in the stories that make up our customers' lives.

Since the beginning, education has played an important role in our being able provide the highest quality service. We are proud to be one of the only store's in Manitoba that employees a gemologist that has attained the following designations: Graduate Gemologist from the Gemological Institute of America, Certified Gemologist from the American Gem Society, and is a Certified Appraisal Professional from the Canadian Jewellers Association. Insisting that new employee's register into entry level jewellery courses, the staff here are very well educated and will be able to answer virtually any question you may have. We find beauty in diamonds, enjoyment in the wide array of colours in nature's gems, and value the precision and creativity of watchmakers around the world. Our education enhances the enjoyment found in these treasures.

In the past 74 years, we have become a place to start a story.
