Forevermark

I find it very hard to contain my excitement for what is coming to Canada this fall. Independent Jewellers, along with approximately 25 other jewellers in the country, was selected to be an Authorized Forevermark dealer.

Forevermark is a new line of diamonds from the world renowned De Beers Group of Companies. Have you heard the line “A Diamond Is Forever”? Yes, De Beers created that…in the 40′s!!!

Forevermark diamonds are 100% sustainable diamonds. They are rare, beautiful, and responsibly sourced. All the Forevermark diamonds in Canada come from Canadian diamond mines and are mined, cut, and polished in Canada. These Canadian Forevermark diamonds even come with birth certificates, that is, you can know exactly which mine in Canada they come out of!

The story of these diamonds and what De Beers does to ensure sustainability is incredible! We are expecting our Forevermark inventory to be arriving this September.

I was looking through past posts the other day and I realized I have not written anything about Mark Schneider! This surprised me very much as I am a huge fan of his designs and because we have been dealing with this lovely company for many years now.

Mark Schneider is an award winning designer out of California. He has won so many awards that one loses track of all of them (though I’m sure he has a wall at his office that is littered with plaques and trophies). Today he is the only living designer to have his jewellery on display in the Smithsonian in Washington D.C.!

Je t’aime

His designs would not be considered mainstream, and that to me is what makes him so great! Look through his collection here and you will see what I am talking about. Not only are his designs stunning, and completely different from everyone else, he is accessible! I can actually pick up the phone and call Mark, or his wife Nancy, and have a conversation with them. Their company is an absolute delight to deal with and they are very accommodating when it comes to changing certain aspects of a ring. In fact, this company is so amazing to deal with that they actually let me name one of their rings! Which one you ask? Je t’aime (“I Love You” in French) is what I consider to be their made-for-Manitoba ring (see above picture).

It seems like there are so many options today in the engagement ring market; everyone wants something different, something unique, something beautiful…and they should get it!

We are proud to carry many designers here at Independent Jewellers, but there are a couple that I would like to mention. Scott Kay engagement rings are very traditional in there look (I have mentioned them before here). They like to use lots of diamonds on their rings so you will find many Scott Kay rings with micro-set pave on the shoulders of the ring.

Two other designers we are proud to have, that most Canadians have never heard of, are Mark Schneider and Frederic Sage. Each designer makes incredibly unique pieces, rings that I am convinced you will not find anything like in any other jewellery store. The quality of their product is superb, and since they are both smaller design companies, it is easy for us to just pick up the phone and talk to Mark or Frederic directly. That is a convenience that is usually not available with larger companies.

Most of our rings today are stocked as semi-mount product. What “semi-mount” means is that the ring you see in the showcase is made of gold, all the small little diamonds are diamonds, however, the center stone is a CZ (Cubic Zirconium). The reason we do this is simple: 99% of the time we have to special order the ring in. And this is good! This way we can customize the ring to each individuals preference, and we can order it in the proper size (as most couples shop together, we can get her ring size). Often the couple will want a specific size diamond in the center, with specific quality characteristics, and if you don’t find the diamond you want in our collection of loose diamonds, we will find the diamond and bring it in. The perfect ring for the perfect girl!

MaeVona Engagement Rings

Not long ago we brought in a line of engagement rings by the New York based company, MaeVona. I actually discovered this brand when a fellow jeweller friend from Vancouver called me and in our discussions MaeVona came up. He suggested we look into the brand, and well here we are.

MaeVona is a very unique and beautiful line of engagement rings. Maeve Gillies is the designer and her designs are inspired by her Scottish heritage. Take a look at the rings and I guarantee you will be able to see where the Scottish influence comes from.

I really like her designs because she is getting away from all the pave style engagement rings you see on the market today. The popular trend right now is to have tons of little diamonds strewn everywhere on the ring, typically with a larger center diamond. MaeVona is much more simpler than that; Gillies seems to focus on having intricate designs with the gold and even puts design into the claws that hold the diamond, something that is rarely seen with engagement rings.

All the rings are available in 18K gold or platinum, and can be special ordered to take almost any size of diamond. We only have these ring at our 493 Notre Dame Ave. location. Take a look on their website to see all of MaeVona designs.
